Quality Management at HHL

The quality management of HHL is based on the schools mission and takes into account the specific culture of a rather small and very personal university. The quality cycle Plan-Do-Check-Act is the foundation for the continuous improvement of the study programs.

International Accreditation

HHL was the first private Business School in the German-speaking region to be accredited by AACSB International in 2004. Since then, HHL was successfully reaccredited in 2009 and 2014 under the new standards. AACSB puts a special focus on the continuous improvement and mission of the school.

Program Accreditations

All of HHL’s study programs are nationally accredited by ACQUIN e.V.

Quality Audit

Following an announcement of the German Accreditation Council which was looking for innovative ways of Quality Management at Universities, HHL applied with its concept of a holistic approach of sustainable quality assurance and development. By working on combining the international with the national accreditation, HHL plays a pioneer role in Germany’s national accreditation system.

The potential of our technology is enormous."

HHL is a business school with a long history

The Handelshochschule Leipzig, the first German commercial college, was founded on April 25, 1898.

Moving between locations several times, including locations in Löhrstraße and Schulstraße, the school settled in Leipzig's Ritterstraße 8/10 in 1910.
The end of the Second World War also meant the end of the Handelshochschule Leipzig.

In February 1946, it then was integrated into the reopened University of Leipzig as Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences. The foundation of a Hochschule für Binnenhandel Leipzig (Graduate School of Domestic Trade) – established in 1953 and closed again in 1963 – was followed by the formation of the state-run Leipzig Graduate School of Management in 1969, which after the fall of the Berlin Wall, had to close down under the Saxon Higher Education Act by the end of September 1992.

Almost at the same time, in October, 1992 the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Leipzig) and the Society of Friends of HHL (GdF) founded a new and independently operated Graduate School of Management which under the name of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management has become one of the leading business schools in Europe.
