Germany’s leading private business school has become a very successful incubator for startups in Germany over the last decades. More than 250 companies were set up by alumni of HHL Leipzig School of Management.
The most well-known examples include the unicorns (startups with a valuation of more than $1bn) Trivago and Delivery Hero as well as other renown companies such as the HitFox Group or futalis. Due to the entrepreneurial engagement of the HHL founders more than 12,500 jobs have been created, thousands in the area of Leipzig.
Cornerstones of the successful entrepreneurship education at HHL are the integration of the subject into the study programs, the close cooperation with experts from the founders‘ scene, the strong local network of support for academic founders and the strong network of the HHL alumni itself, especially the growing number of HHL entrepreneurs who themselves engage in practical support for the students who think about founding their own business.
The strong entrepreneurial orientation of HHL is further aligned by having three entrepreneurship chairs:
In addition, HHL has its own accelerator: SpinLab – The HHL accelerator, which is a spin-off from HHL and directed by HHL alumnus Dr. Eric Weber.
Furthermore, HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management was awarded three times as the best university for entrepreneurship in the Start-up Radar ranking published by Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Founder’s Association for German Science) encompassing all German business schools and universities with up to 5,000 students.
