Program Structure

New structure: The program that is as individual as you are

HHL’ s innovative and international full-time MBA program is designed to prepare effective and responsible business leaders for the challenges of the 21st century. The program offers international experiences and uses an integrated approach to focus on developing your leadership talents and management skills. It is designed to offer you the most flexibility: according to your level of practical experience and your career goals, you have two program tracks to choose from. The “Fast Track” allows candidates with substantial work experience to get the essential knowledge and skills to return to work as soon as possible. The “Advanced Track” offers additional electives and options such as an internship or a term abroad and is best suited for candidates who wish to spend more time building a professional network or have a bigger choice of elective courses. The Advanced Track will also let you spread out your schedule to allow a better balance between your study and private life. During the studies you will have an excellent chance to deepen your knowledge of German culture and language by attending additional German courses and cultural activities that will allow you to get integrated into the German society and have better chances for successful employment after the program. At HHL, you will have an opportunity to choose from several courses running throughout the program. For those who want to use the lecture-free time to study the language more intensively, there is an intensive beginner course offered in August. You will find the detailed information about our language courses in the downloads at the end of this section.

To register for the German intensive course please go to our online platform

Student Consulting Projects

Within the module “Student Consulting Projects” you have the chance to take on the role of a company consultant and apply the concepts you have learned to actual business practice. By working on a field (consulting) project, you will gain insights into high-performing companies and help them solve critical business issues. HHL offers you a variety of challenging projects, with multinational companies as well as start-ups and local companies, e. g.

Comments

“Having worked in commercial real estate in the US for most of my career, I was looking for options to move into a new field while continuing to live in Europe. Through connections that were established due to HHL’s strong Entrepreneurship program, and the alumni network, I am now working at trivago GmbH, a leading international travel platform.”
Jonathan Eichelberger, USA
MBA class 2011, Strategy and Business Development, Trivago GmbH, Germany

“The full-time MBA at HHL was a very special experience for me. The challenging academic and international business environment, experienced faculty members and classmates from all over the world made the program truly unique. Thanks to the structure of small classes, one of the most important characteristics of the program, participants learn both from professors as well as their classmates.”
Onur Köksal, Turkey
MBA class of 2003, CFO, Atasun Optical, Turkey

“The MBA helped me to enhance knowledge and skills in standard business disciplines in addition to experiencing fields that were completely new to me. I particularly enjoyed entrepreneurial disciplines, not only in theory but also by testing the practical worth of new ideas we developed. The combination of this high class academic program, the international experience and the practical knowledge I had before the studies are the foundation of my professional development.”

Lubica Valentova, MBA class of 2013

“I appreciate the scholarship “Women in Business” because it offers me big financial relief in the first place. Furthermore, this special scholarship shows not only the recognition of my achievement as a business woman, but also the positive sign from HHL towards equality. Females can be as successful as males in academic area as well as business world, though this is not always perceived as truth. Therefore, it is great that HHL gives credit to the business women and motivate them to further develop themselves. I would like to encourage business ladies to pursue the MBA study at HHL as well as applying for this scholarship as it is all about recognition, motivation and confidence – which we need for our future career."

In the list of Frequently Asked Questions you will find some answers to questions regarding all aspects of the Master of Business Administration program.

Does the full-time MBA Program only start in the fall?

Yes, you can join the full-time program in September of each year.

I can’t upload all the documents by the deadline. Can I send them later?

Some of the documents have to be submitted along with your application. Please make sure you have uploaded them and indicate when we can expect the rest. However, we encourage all candidates to submit their complete applications by the deadline, as late applications may not be considered. International candidates should complete their applications in a timely manner to allow enough time for visa processing.

Is GMAT mandatory?

The GMAT test is mandatory for the Full-time MBA applicants. Alternatively, HHL can accept the GRE test.
Our GMAT code is ZCB-P6-01. To register for the test, please visit the official GMAT website.

How do I submit my recommendation letters?

Please ask your referees to submit their recommendation letters to us directly. They can use the HHL template or write a recommendation in a free format. They can either email it to us (in this case, it should be scanned with the original signature and sent from the email account of the referee) or send it by mail to the following address:

HHL Admissions
Jahnallee 59
04109, Leipzig
Germany

In some cases, your referees may give their reference letters to you. Should this be the case, you may upload the letters to the online platform with the rest of your application. Please make sure that letters bear the original signature and contact information of the referees. In other cases please leave these fields in your application blank.

Work experience (only applicable to MBA candidates).

On average, students in our full-time MBA program have five years of work experience, ranging between three and twelve years. However, the minimum work experience cannot be shorter than 2 years in full-time. Please note that only postgraduate work experience can be considered. Exception from this rule is military service that can be accepted regardless of the time during which it was completed (please see additional information about military/social service in the next question).

Internships completed after bachelor studies graduation will be accepted as relevant work experience.

Part-time work/internships will be counted as half of their total duration (for example, part-time internship from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012 will be counted as 6 months of work experience)

Any other practical experience after graduation from a bachelor level academic program might be considered by the MBA admissions team and we encourage candidates to include all information relevant to work experience in their application.

When can military service/social service be accepted as relevant work experience?

Military service can be accepted as work experience regardless of its duration and time of completion. If you have a certificate of completion of military service, please upload it in the respective field.

Social service can only be accepted as work experience if it was completed after university graduation, lasted at least 6 months and if you can provide a relevant certificate of completion. Please note: only official projects supported by relevant certificates can be recognized.

What is meant by „Proof of work experience“?

To determine your eligibility for the program, HHL requires that candidates submit a letter from their current/former employer(s) stating the length of their employment.
If your recommendation letter/s are provided by one of your employers with the length of your employment stated in the reference and the stated length exceeds the minimum work experience requirement, the recommendation letter will suffice and you can leave field „Proof of work experience“ blank.

Do I have to send a hard copy of my application to HHL or will the electronic application be sufficient?

Your electronic application is sufficient to apply for the MBA program. Please note, however, that we require certified copies of your university degree certificates and grade transcripts. In case you would like to upload uncertified copies of these documents online, they will be accepted and your application will be considered for admission, but we request that you either send the certified copies to us at a later point of time (by the start of your studies at the latest) or bring your original documents with you to HHL when you start your studies.

I would like to apply for HHL scholarships. When should I apply and what financial assistance options are there?

Applicants will be considered for financial assistance upon a formal application only. You can apply for scholarships after you have submitted your program application. Please keep in mind that the MBA program has an earlier deadline for those candidates who wish to be considered for scholarships and we encourage early applications in this case. Scholarship applications should be sent via email to Margarita Saglam at margarita.saglam(at)hhl.de
More information about financing options.
