Achieving ambitious goals in personal and professional life

Our alumni are successful and responsible individuals working as professionals and contributing to society in over 70 countries. Besides having interesting careers, HHL alumni show a strong commitment for sustainable and social initiatives. At their best, they combine both aspects, making an important impact in society.

Amongst them are successful women in business. They performed not only at HHL at their best, they also took over responsible positions within the industry or started with their own business and support now especially female students at HHL in giving advice on careers.

Conny E. Wuppermann, Partner and CFO of palero capital

Alumna Conny Wuppermann started her career within finance after graduation in 2005. After several years in investment banking and private equity and consulting she set up her own Private Equity investment fund palero capital with two co-founders where she is now partner and CFO. Moreover, Conny shows strong commitment for her alma mater which she supports within the campus project and where she is contact person for potential candidates and especially female students who also want to start a career in finance.

Lucretia Löscher, Senior Consultant at Siemens Management Consulting

The portrait of alumna Lucretia Löscher shows the challenges in consulting and how Lucretia established her path into this sector. She graduated from HHL in 2010 and started immediately afterwards with Siemens Management Consulting as Consultant and became Senior Consultant within a short period of time. At the end of 2013, Lucretia switched career within SIEMENS and started with OSRAM as Benchmarking Project Manager.

In addition, our alumni show a strong commitment for their alma mater. Their support is an inspiring and valuable source of input and information and numerous projects are conducted successfully through the mutual exchange as well as contribution of our alumni.

Dirk Graber, Founder and CEO of Mister Spex GmbH

HHL is highly recognized for its excellent entrepreneurial education and network of successful entrepreneurs who support their alma mater and its students significantly with their expertise. Alumnus Dirk Graber who graduated in 2006 and started with his own company Mister Spex in 2007 is a great example for this commitment. He is supporting HHL with his company in order to foster the entrepreneurial spirit at HHL and he supports as 1st chairman of the board of the Friends of HHL who are the hub for entrepreneurs at HHL. Now, Dirk Graber is presenting us with his daily challenges in his professional life and how HHL prepared him for this in one of our alumni portraits.

Dr. Marc Schumacher, CRO of TOM TAILOR GROUP

Alumnus Dr. Marc Schumacher is comprehensively involved in HHL. After studying in the part-time MBA program he completed his doctoral thesis at the chair of Marketing Management from Prof. Dr. Manfred Kirchgeorg with whom he is still in close contact. He is giving continuously insights into his practical experience within lectures, he is setting up a retail think tank with the chair and he is now presenting himself with regards to his academic and professional career at HHL and afterwards in one of our alumni portraits.

Beta Gamma Sigma - Recognizing Business Excellence

Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) is a scholastic honor society of business schools accredited by AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools). The society was established to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, and to foster personal and professional excellence among its members. Worldwide, excellent graduates of business schools can become members of this honor society.

The Beta Gamma Sigma chapter at HHL

The Beta Gamma Sigma chapter at HHL was installed in December 2004, following HHL’s accreditation by AACSB. Distinguished HHL graduates are invited every year to join the Beta Gamma Sigma chapter of our business school. Currently, the number of members counts up to 594 graduates and faculty staff. As of December 31, 2016, 20 new members were inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma chapter at HHL

Who is invited to lifetime membership? In accordance with the current situation at HHL, these are:

  • Post-Baccalaureate Membership: 
    The top 20 % of students of any master class at a time jointly determined by HHL Department of Student Affairs and the BGS chapter
  • Doctoral Membership: 
    All doctoral students who have successfully defended their dissertation
  • Faculty Membership:
    Individual has earned a doctorate from an AACSB accredited business program or is tenured or has been teaching for at least 6 years at HHL

Alumni Principles

As ambassadors of HHL and crucial members within the HHL community, all alumni carry the reputation of HHL and stand for its mission to educate effective, responsible and entrepreneurial business leaders onsite and throughout the world. In doing so, they are actively committed to all members of the HHL community, while benefitting from the HHL network.

Due to HHL's outstanding education and research, not only do our alumni become leaders in the business sector, but some become leading scholars as well. Chapters & Groups

The global network onsite

Our alumni are based and are working throughout the world. However, HHL alumni maintain strong ties with HHL and with each other beyond their studies. They are organized in regional chapters and groups, as well as in expertise groups according to their profession and fields of interest.

The alumni chapters are regional units, which are led by alumni onsite and are open to all alumni. Meetings and events are organized on a regular basis where alumni:

  • Keep one another up to date;
  • Share personal and professional networks; 
  • Exchange business ideas;
  • Help stay in touch with HHL;
  • Discuss and provide input into the further development of HHL; and
  • Be a permanent contact person for new alumni.

HHL maintains close contact to the chapters to inform alumni about the latest projects and achievements, as well as to involve alumni in the development of the university. Therefore, our dean and chancellor visit all chapters once a year. Regional groups within Germany and throughout the world also meet on a regular basis. Moreover as our alumni are experts in different fields and within various, expertise groups are formed crossing regional borders, where knowledge and new trends are shared.

Homecoming & Reunions

Each year all alumni from around the world are invited to Leipzig. Graduates from every program spend a whole weekend celebrating their homecoming in order to remember their times at HHL. Moreover, it’s a great opportunity to meet new and older alumni and enhance one's personal network. In particular, our jubilee classes are most welcome and warmly invited to celebrate their 5th, 10th and 15th anniversary with HHL and their fellow alumni.

On the agenda for each homecoming are always:

  • a BBQ;
  • Tours through HHL and Leipzig;
  • Homecoming dinner with speech of the dean of HHL; and
  • Celebration of anniversaries of the jubilee classes.   

Altogether, it is always an unforgettable weekend in Leipzig!

Commitment

Showing your commitment for your alma mater!

Our HHL alumni foster the network and benefit from it at the same time. They are recognized members of the HHL community. As such, they ideally and financially support their alma mater. As important ambassadors, they contribute to reputation and quality of HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management.

HHL alumni are:

  • Involved in the boards of our shareholders (Friends of HHL and Kramer Foundation);
  • Organizing the unified association of alumni (HHL Alumni Association);
  • Enhancing research and teaching as practical experts;
  • Strengthening the sustainable growth of HHL with donations and endowments;
  • and Initiating various other successful projects.

They support:

  • The selection process of new students;
  • Students with the National Scholarship;
  • Student initiatives, equipment for the HHL library and the HHL Alumni Lounge; and
  • Students in finding an internship or a job and making the next career step.

Moreover, HHL alumni show strong commitment for HHL’s students. Therefore, they take part in Alumni Talks and exchange their experiences regarding careers with HHL students, they are contact person as mentors as well as open up their company doors to welcome students and provide them with the chance to get insights into daily challenges and to get in touch with HR persons.

Alumni Talks

When HHL students graduate they are not only faced with various career opportunities they are also confronted with questions regarding the right job entry. In order to provide them with appropriate support in finding the perfect job, a challenging position or in starting within an exciting business sector we invite alumni to HHL’s campus. During a “Kaminabend” HHL alumni give insights into their career paths and experiences, they point out advantages and disadvantages and answer all students’ questions. In this context, students and alumni continue their discussions during the get together afterwards. The following topics where discussed within our Alumni Talk series so far:

  • “A start in consulting – but what is the next step?”
  • “Founding a company – better immediately after studying or gaining professional?”
  • “Assistant to the CEO/board – job entry opportunities, challenges and further development opportunities”

Mentoring Women in Business @HHL

HHL is educating future managers and executives and thereby, HHL put strong efforts in the encouragement of female young professionals. In this context, HHL alumnae committed as mentors and contact persons for further development opportunities, tips and advice on careers and questions of female managers.

HHL Mentors:

In addition to company presentation and workshops on campus students have also the chance to meet companies onsite. HHL alumni open their doors and present students with their working environment, they give insights into their company and their daily challenges and they provide them with HR contacts.
