HHL Finance Case Challenge 2026 powered by BCG

Price the deal. Face the board.

A competitor is on the market. Your company wants it. What is the target worth to you, what are the synergies actually worth, and how much of that value are you prepared to hand over to the seller?

You get two days and a team of people you have not met to answer that in front of a board.

Day 1: Think like a consultant. HHL professors run an interactive session on how strategy consultants take a messy business problem apart: structuring the question, deciding what to analyse and what to leave alone, and building an argument that survives a sceptical audience. This is the case training that consulting applications turn on, and you will use all of it the next morning. In the evening we head into Leipzig’s city centre for dinner.

Day 2: The case. You join the M&A buy-side team of a strategic investor planning to take over a competitor. Your team analyses the target, sizes the synergies and pitches the deal to the target’s management board. Experienced transaction experts from BCG mentor you through it and push back on your reasoning — the same pushback their own associates get. Then we crown the winning team and close the event with a barbecue on campus.

Participation in the event is free of charge and accommodation and food are on us: the overnight stay in Leipzig and full catering across both days are covered.

If you enjoy the event, make sure to also use the weekend for a second look at us: our Master in Finance (15 months, full-time) and the Master in Management | Finance both sit behind the event, and students from both will be around all weekend — in the sessions and at dinner. Ask them anything. Traditionally approx. one third of participants are future HHL students.

Your profile

• You are a current bachelor student or a recent graduate in business, economics or alike.
• You have above average grades and/or some first relevant practical experiences.
• You have a passion for finance and strategy, and some very first insights on the world of finance (e.g., you have heard how to value an investment and what a discount rate is).
• You are up for a challenge and ready to tackle it with a team of other highly motivated peers.
