HHL Expert Talk: A scientific approach to measuring New Work

New Work has become more relevant than ever, with the world being forced to literally find new ways to work overnight. However, New Work is not achieved by simply allowing employees to work from home. While academic research on the topic is relatively new, one question has been challenging researchers from the very beginning: How do you actually measure New Work?

“The aim of New Work is not to free people from work, but to transform work so that it produces free, self-determined human beings.” – Frithjof Bergmann

HHL’s Prof. Dr. Tobias Dauth has identified three dimensions of New Work: Transparency & Appreciation, Leadership & Organization and Individual fulfillment. Furthermore, New Work centers around employees and what they really want to do. This shows us that companies need to place employees at the center of their attention. In his Expert Talk he explains exactly how he uses these dimensions to apply the collected data and ultimately measure if a company is truly creating a work environment classified as New Work.
