From Boston to Cape Town: Why HHL’s Global Immersion Seminar is Moving to South Africa

by Stephanie Pleiss-Dietrich | August 07, 2026
In 2026, the Part-time MBA’s Global Immersion Seminar is moving to Cape Town. Discover why South Africa’s dynamic ecosystem is the perfect place to challenge traditional business perspectives, connect with real entrepreneurial resilience, and expand your leadership horizon

The Global Immersion Seminar has always been the highlight of the Part-time MBA at HHL. For years, our students traveled to Boston – a hub of world-leading universities and entrepreneurial spirit. Lectures at Harvard, Babson, Boston University, and MIT offered a unique gateway into the American business landscape. Combined with conversations with alumni and local entrepreneurs, the week provided an invaluable international perspective.

Starting in 2026, we are taking the Global Immersion Seminar to a new destination: Cape Town, South Africa, in partnership with Stellenbosch University Business School, one of Africa’s leading business schools. As an integral part of HHL’s Part-time MBA, the international study trip gives participants the opportunity to experience global business environments first-hand while expanding their leadership perspective.

Why South Africa is the Perfect Destination for an MBA Study Trip

In today’s world, leadership requires perspectives beyond Europe and the US. Africa is one of the fastest growing and most dynamic regions, with Cape Town at the forefront of entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and social change. By shifting the seminar to South Africa, we are opening a new chapter for our students: one that combines academic excellence with deep cultural immersion.
For many professionals, international exposure is one of the most valuable parts of an MBA. South Africa offers a unique opportunity to explore emerging markets, innovation, and leadership in a rapidly evolving business environment.
