HHL’s accelerator was awarded gold status in a ranking by the Rheinische Fachhochschule (RFH; University of Applied Sciences) in Cologne. This recognition places it among the three best of its kind in Germany. “We are very proud of this result,” says SpinLab CEO Eric Weber. The ranking evaluated 30 institutions which support startup founders over a fixed time period through consultation and assistance for their development. The survey from Cologne is based on the focal points of subsequent financing, network or initial public offering, value increase, acquisition and founders’ satisfaction.
SpinLab is financially supported by renowned enterprises such as Verbundnetz Gas AG, Madsack Media Group and the European Energy Exchange. Entrepreneurs can stay for six months and receive intensive coaching and funding of up to EUR 15,000. Established companies use SpinLab as well as a kind of startup department. Recently, Tilia joined as a cooperation partner. The consulting firm and service provider, which was founded in Leipzig in 2009, supports municipal energy suppliers, local authorities, industrial enterprises and utility companies in developing sustainable infrastructure. Tilia has 100 employees. “For a small or medium-sized company like us, SpinLab simply offers an effective and inexpensive way of getting to know new innovations from startups,” said Tilia CEO Christophe Hug in explaining his decision to support SpinLab.
