Profile

The group “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” researches the internationalization and financing options of innovative startups (venture capital financing and crowd investing). Another focal point of the research and teaching in the department is internet-based innovation strategies. This is because open innovation concepts in companies and markets offer possibilities to involve employees (intrapreneurship) as well as market partners (value co-creation).
Prof. Dr. Reichwald summarizes: “Advanced internet-based technologies have the potential for the innovation of products and services, processes of value creation and collaboration in organizations and markets. IT-technologies enable us to create platforms for change in the innovation process, e.g. to involve suppliers and customers or even communities in the sense of value co-creation. Advanced internet-based technologies have the potential for entrepreneurship as well.

Teaching and Transfer

The department’s teachings provide a broad basis of education in entrepreneurship and business plan development in all its programs. The foundations for lessons are real world case studies provided by the large network of HHL founders and partners. HHL’s networking with the innovation sectors of Leipzig, through SMILE and the Leipzig Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer, also plays an important role.
The group further supports interdisciplinary formation projects in technical and medical fields, assists HHL founders through coaching and EXiST scholarships, as well as in identifying field projects and formation-related master theses. The group closely cooperates with the student initiative Accelerate@HHL, which specializes in startups and is linked both nationally and internationally with leading research networks in the field of entrepreneurship.
