Profile

The Finance, Accounting and Corporate Governance academic group is greatly influenced by the HHL Mission Statement, i.e. “We educate effective and responsible business leaders through excellence in teaching, research and practice”, with the group putting particular emphasis on the attributes of effectiveness and responsibility in its research and teaching approach.
Topics dealt with by the individual group members intersect in questions such as “Accounting for business combinations according to IFRS 3 (e.g. purchase price allocation)”, “Impairment of assets according to IAS 36” as well as “Corresponding aspects of Corporate Governance”. The research of the group targets, among other things, the financial aspects of tax shields, private equity, diversification discount and the connection between CSR and company performance (Good Company Ranking in collaboration with Kirchhoff Consult AG) as well examinations for a national Corporate Governance Scorecard.

Knowledge Transfer

The knowledge transfer to the partner from the practice is mainly executed through the individual competence centers. The Center for Financial Reporting & Consolidation combines consulting services with academic input based on scientific expertise in the area of international financial reporting and consolidation. By doing joint research projects with partners like the Boston Consulting Group, Henkel, Duff&Phelps and the German Private Equity Association BVK, the Center for Corporate Transactions ensures that its research results have significant practical impact. A good example for transfer of research results into practice is the joint BCG/HHL study “Take a second look on secondaries”, challenging conventional wisdom about the low performance of secondary buyouts.
