4th New Leipzig Talents Round

Record participation in the 4th New Leipzig Talents Round

With 20 HHL students, the New Leipzig Talents program (NLT) entered its fourth round. This competence coaching for HHL students, launched in 2016, is growing both in terms of the content and the number of participants. This year, the program set a new application record, more students were admitted and four new coaches support the program on a voluntary basis; including Matthias Reichwald, Chief Commercial Director of RB Leipzig.

Prof. Timo Meynhardt says: “In just two years, the coaching program has become an integral part of HHL’s extra-curricular offerings. The constantly growing demand is a clear signal for us to meet the requirements of our students and to further expand this part of HHL’s leadership orientation”.

Work on personal competencies

At the kick-off event for NLT 2018/19 on 19 November 2018, the students met their coach for a first conversation. The coach will accompany them for six months and work intensively with the coachees on their personal competencies. NLT focuses on self-reflection:

  • What are my strengths and how can I use them specifically?
  • How do I build sustainable and trusting relationships?
  • How do I sharpen my eyes for the “big picture” in management, organization and society?

Parallel to the coaching sessions, various group workshops are offered. A Peer Coaching Workshop with Coach Dr. Georg Fischer (University of St. Gallen) is a completely new offer of NLT: The students slip into the role of a coach in order to give their fellow students impulses for personal development.

Feedback

For the participants last year, the program was a particular highlight of their studies. Ancilla Chui from the full-time MBA program: “This coaching program strengthens the idea of continuous self-development and the connection between one’s own strengths and personal passions. Through the close and intensive cooperation with my coach Xenia Meuser, I was able to gain experiences and insights that would have cost me years if I had wanted to find them out for myself!”

The program was also a very valuable experience for M.Sc. student Benedikt Tostmann: “The meetings with my coach Julia Schäfer triggered a process in which I could translate my weaknesses into strengths. I received valuable inspiration from her to finally be able to exploit my full potential in leadership”.

Partners and new coaches

Among the experienced coaches from versatile business and management backgrounds are four new experts –

  • Manuela Becker, Director HR at Invia Group Germany
  • Franziska von Malaisé, coach, trainer and mediator who had e.g. managed the production, marketing and sales of Ludwig Beck’s private label in Munich
  • Matthias Reichwald, Chief Commercial Officer of the football club RB Leipzig
  • Karin Sahr, EY Senior Manager Strategic Solutions and Public Value, coach at the the Psychoanalytical Academy/ Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf

The Competence Coaching New Leipzig Talents is a HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Managment program in cooperation with XING SE and Dr. Arend Oetker.
