A good negotiator must create value for all parties involved. Regarding this theme student teams from all over the world including a team from HHL - Leipzig Graduate School of Management participated in the Warsaw Negotiation Round organized by the Warsaw School of Economics from May 6-9, 2011.

HHL’s MBA students Michael Mars, Jaydeep Reddy and Hannes Koch made it into the final round after having succeeded in four qualification rounds. In this final, which took place in the Senate of the Republic of Poland, the HHL team negotiated successfully and was rewarded by the jury with the second price.
In a negotiation competition each team has to prove its negotiation skills by negotiating about fictional cases. The case of the final e.g. dealt with the fictional situation of a cow flu. One team represented a country’s government that wanted to buy a huge amount of vaccination material against the flu. The other team represented a pharmaceutical company that wanted to sell the vaccination for profit. The best negotiator is determined by numerical results as well as the quality of arguments.
Impressive negotiation skills have been shown by this year’s Warsaw Negotiation Round. The event belongs, along with the HHL organized The Negotiation Challenge (TNC), to the most important international negotiation competitions. This year, the 12 selected teams of the Warsaw Negotiation Round came from well-known universities from Belgium, Holland, France, Hungary, China, USA, Canada, Austria, Poland and Germany.
