On July 23, 2010, HHL conferred honorary doctorates on Professor Richard B. Mancke, PhD, (former Academic Director of HHL’s MBA programs) and Dr. h. c. Bernhard Walter (former Spokesperson of the Board of Directors of Dresdner Bank AG and long-time Chairman of the Supervisory Board of HHL). With over 100 guests at Leipzig’s Old Stock Exchange HHL honored two internationally recognized personalities that rendered outstanding service to the business school.
In his laudatio in honor of Dr. h.c. Bernhard Walter, Professor Hermann Kokenge (former Dean of TU Dresden) commented on Walter’s pionieering and entrepreneurial spirit in the banking sector as well as in social life. Thanks to Dr. Walter over EUR 70 Mio. were raised for the reconstruction of the Frauenkirche in Dresden. Professor Kokenge: “HHL is indebted to Dr. Walter for his commitment as Chairman of its Supervisory Board from 2001 until 2009. Whether as door opener to private people, foundations or political institutions - through his commitment and his reliability Dr. Walter put a stable basis for the development of HHL.”

Professor Dr. Gerhard Wolff, member of HHL’s Supervisory Board, held the laudatio in honor of Professor Richard B. Mancke, PhD. Professor Wolff said: “Ten years ago, Professor Mancke has established the internationally distinguished MBA program at HHL. The course combines the strengths of the German training of microeconomics with the U.S. education in decision and practice-oriented management knowledge. For this, Professor Mancke deserves the honorary doctorate by Germany’s oldest business school.”
