Leipzig was this year’s shooting star in a ranking of the Berenberg Bank and the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), which gives information on the future viability of the 30 biggest cities in Germany. In the overall ranking, Leipzig rose from the 25th to the 11th place in comparison to 2008. Major reasons for this leap were growing dynamics in population development and an economic boom.
Leipzig reaches top positions in surveys more and more frequently. It has established itself among the top cities in Germany. For example, the city is at the head of Europe as regards living quality. According to a survey of the European Commission published in June 2010, Leipzig has the best availability of housing.
