Doctoral students

Another year full of challenges has passed, and on July 24, 2010, 113 students from 18 countries celebrated their graduation with more than 650 guests at the Congress Center Leipzig. Special guest was Christian Strenger, member of the German Government Commission on Corporate Governance and of numerous supervisory boards, as well as Director of the new Center for Corporate Governance at HHL, who delivered the graduation speech.

The occasion also saw the announcement of the “Best of the Best” awards, as has become traditional. The title of Schmalenbach Scholar in recognition of academic achievement together with outstanding extracurricular commitment was awarded to Tobias M. Wolff (M10). Martin Wilhelm (K23) and James Downs (M10) were honored for their extraordinary social commitment. The DAAD award for Best International Student went to the Russian student Ramilya Sufianova (MSc4). Uta Fischer, and Jan Auras (both K22), Michael Dornauf, and Erik Hille (MSc2), Sona Žácková (M9), Jan Hartlieb, and Thomas Klein (P3) were honored as the top graduates in their respective classes. Oliver Ehrlich doctoral student at HHL received the Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship.

The Martens & Prahl Research Award for outstanding research associates at HHL went to Sebastian Hoffmann and to Dr. Marco Sperling. Friedrich von Bernewitz (K22) was the winner of the KARL-KOLLE-Prize for Strategic Management at HHL. Last but by no means least, the graduates also made their own awards, honoring the HHL faculty and staff voted best in their respective categories by HHL students at the end of the academic year: The recipients were Professor Dr. Torsten Wulf (best professor), Dr. Remigiusz Smolinski (best guest lecturer), Alberto Chullen Llamas (best research associate), and Petra Spanka (best administrative staff member).

After an ecumenical service at the world-famous Thomaskirche and the ceremony in the Congress Center, the graduation ball in the Da Capo provided an appropriately relaxed end to the special day.
