Once you are admitted into one of HHL's programs you will get an admission letter from HHL. With this letter you must go to the German Embassy of your country and apply for a student visa. Please check the Embassy's website for the requirements since it is different for every country. Students from Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland and the USA don't need to apply for a student visa and are allowed to apply for the residence permit in Germany.
