CASiM Conference 2016 on July 6-7, 2016 in Leipzig

Welcome to the CASiM Conference

European Cities in Dynamic Competition - Urban Governance, Cooperation, Competitiveness and Sustainability

Today, more than two thirds of citizens of Europe are city dwellers, and the tendency is increasing. The quality of urban life and technical infrastructure are considered to be crucial to attracting and retaining a skilled labor force and businesses. The social and economic concentration of resources in cities may, however, result in negative side-effects like pollution or congestion. Hence cities are both the source of and solution to economic, environmental and social challenges. Cities in an aging Europe will also need to assert themselves amid increasing digitization and global competition. Managing urban complexity to create sustainable cities will thus be one of the most challenging tasks for European cities in the 21st century.

The Center for Advanced Studies in Management (CASiM) organized a two-day conference devoted to innovative urban and city management in Leipzig, kindly sponsored by Stiftung Mercator. A special focus was placed on governance, sustainability and the reinvention of European cities and regions. With representatives from academia, research and practice in attendance, the challenges of urban and city management were presented and innovative approaches and strategies for coping with them were discussed.

CASiM Conference 2013 "Change Management"

In the current times of economic and financial crises with ever shortening innovation cycles, open innovation and the rise of digital media, the management of change and transformation processes in firms and organizations has become a crucial task of survival. While change management is not a new topic in business research, the developments of the last decade have posed many new challenges for the change management of firms and organizations, and have thus also raised many new questions for academic research in business administration.

Therefore, the Center for Advanced Studies in Management (CASiM) at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management devoted its second annual CASiM conference, which took place on July4, 2013, to the topic “Change Management”. The conference focused on “Organizational Change and Leadership” and “Change Management in Firms and Markets”, and placed a special emphasis on three topics:

  • “Adaptive Leadership and Motivation”,
  • “Organizational Change and Corporate Governance”, and
  • “Co-Evolution: Change Management and Interactive Communication”.

Plenary Panel: Organizational Change and Leadership

CASiM Conference 2012 "The Role of Trust in Business Economics”

The CASiM Conference 2012 “The Role of Trust in Business Economics” that took place on June 28, 2012 at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management opened a series of annual conferences devoted to academic exchange and dialog with business practitioners about the challenges of business administration in the 21 century. Trust is one of the fundamental factors for an effective exchange and interplay of economic actors, and thus has a great impact on the intra-firm and inter-firm interaction and the efficiency and prosperity of national economies. Besides economic policies, regulations, compliance and contracts within firms, on the market and in the national economy, efficiency and sustainability also require trust. Our current economic and financial crisis demonstrates clearly how important trust is and which problems arise on the market and in the national economy when trust is abused or lost. The first CASiM conference addressed questions of the role that trust plays in economics and business administration. The conference focused in particular on the three areas: Trust and the Theory of the Firm, Trust and Markets, Trust in Innovation.

Panel 1: Trust and the Theory of the Firm

Panel 2: Trust and Markets

Panel 3: Trust in Innovation
