HHL's faculty offers a wide range of expertise and provides state-of-the-art management education on a very high level. The distinguished full-time faculty is supported by international guest professors who give our students practical insight into current best practices and upcoming trends. Our faculty's research aims at supplementing teaching and is regularly cited in prestigious economic journals and newspapers.
We regard the link between teaching and research as fundamental to the academic education at HHL. The professors at HHL are acknowledged experts in their fields and supervise groundbreaking research projects within Germany and abroad. Here too the focus is on the practical relevance. In many cases the field projects are carried out in close cooperation with industry. The latest results of the research are fed back into the teaching, and our students are given opportunities to take part in projects in a variety of ways.

Academic Groups

In order to enhance its strength and to profile new focus areas, HHL organizes its research and teaching activities around five thematic groups. Each group unites several chairs and centers. The members of the groups cooperate in research and teaching projects.

CASiM

The Center for Advanced Studies in Management (CASiM) is an interdisciplinary research center for business administration in the 21st century established at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management in 2012. CASiM brings together the expertise of all departments of HHL to conduct research in the following four areas of business administration: "The role of trust in firms and with their stakeholders", "Change management in firms and markets", "Healthcare economics" and "Urban dynamics: cities and firms in global competition". Besides its research activities, CASiM also offers a transdisciplinary and international platform for the development of business administration with regard to the great challenges implied by globalization, technological development, environmental and demographic dynamics. With this platform, facilitated by annual CASiM Conferences, the center provides a forum for the interdisciplinary dialog involving other academic disciplines and practitioners. In 2013, the CASiM Graduate School started its operations with the enrollment of the first two outstanding young researchers who work on their doctoral projects under the guidance of internationally renowned researchers of the Executive Board of CASiM and from the HHL faculty.

CEIM

The Center for Entrepreneurial and Innovative Management (CEIM) is an interdisciplinary research and transfer center established at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management in 2014.

It has two main goals:

  • to foster the creation of successful new companies and spin-offs
  • to support established companies to innovate their business model

CEIM consists of two parts: the Co-Creation Lab and the Innovation Lab.
The Co-Creation Lab is the one-stop agency for founders and fosters the creation of interdisciplinary founder teams. It supports potential founders in further developing their ideas into a business concept. The founders can then afterwards apply for the “SpinLab - The HHL Accelerator” to develop their business concept into successful startups.
The Innovation Lab offers established companies the possibility to develop new business models with the support of students. This enables the companies to get new insights and to get ideas out of the box of the company borders. After indentifying promising business concepts, students can further develop them in the “SpinLab - The HHL Accelerator”. The companies can decide afterwards to integrate them into their business or further develop them in a form of subsidiary.

Further, CEIM organizes the yearly HHL International Investorsday together with “SpinLab – The HHL Accelerator” which brings together founders, investors and incumbents.
