Economic theory deals with rational decision-making in market and non-market interactions. As such, it provides language and methods linking to a variety of business fields, from finance to strategic organization. The recent emergence of computerized networks created exciting new opportunities for the design and commercial exploitation of novel digital technologies and business processes.
Reflecting this new reality, the course offering and research activity at the Department focuses on the interface of economics and the information sciences: the foundations of game and decision theory, AI, the design of electronic markets, the estimation of consumer preferences, quantum information, social choice, and finance.
