Applied economic theory is based on perceptions of economic theory and serves as an aid to understanding and designing economic policy that is "rational" in these terms. The subject area covered by the Chair therefore covers the fields of allocation and distribution theory and environmental economics.
As a result, along with pure research, application-oriented projects - including some in the research programs of the European Commission - are a major focus of the research, with the aim of "diffusing" economic thoughts and insights into economic practice.
Hence the aim is to cross-link and/or transfer know-how between the theoretical analysis of economically relevant questions and empirical applied research. In this sense, applied economic theory has an advisory function in scientific and economic policy.
