Center for Healthcare Management

The Center for Healthcare Management (CHM) was set up at HHL in the mid of 2005.  The Center's task is academic and applied research at the interface of the healthcare and life science sectors using procedures, tools and approaches from business management.

The CHM commands profound expertise in the field of health economics and the economic evaluation of value added of medical devices or process innovations respectively.

The work currently focuses on projects in the area of disease management and the implementation of IT-supported solutions in the healthcare sector and the resulting process control and changes.

Another main field of research addresses financing solutions such as performance-based contracs between industrial companies and healthcare providers as well as (re-)insurance solutions in the field of disease management.

The Center regularly organizes and hosts conferences on those topics and offers modules on health economics as part of HHL’s executive education programs.

The CHM is affiliated to the IHK Chair of Applied Economic Theory at HHL under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hans Wiesmeth, who is also Dean of HHL. The research work of the Center is directed by Dr. med. Christian Elsner in his role as Managing Director.
