Careers and Salary Boost Thanks to a Part-time MBA from HHL

The application closing date for the program starting in March 2012 is January 15, 2012 / Tuition fees are eligible for funding by the European Social Fund (ESF)

The alumni of the part-time MBA program  at HHL – Leipzig Graduate School of Management experience a salary increase averaging 40 percent. A recent survey also showed that two thirds of graduates consider this program beneficial for their careers.

The web-based survey performed in October 2011 addressed alumni of the years 2005 to 2010 who had a work experience of nine years on average. Their reasons for a postgraduate program in Management varied, ranging from an intended advancement in the present company to a change into another company, from starting their own business to an expansion of knowledge and skills. About one fifth of respondents changed to company in the same field of business after obtaining the MBA. More than one third, however, changed industries after graduation and accepted a new position in a different company. Most of the alumni took up management positions or work as division managers or CEOs in companies. Only 15 percent stated they had not changed positions after their studies.

Melanie Petersen, Head of the HHL Career Service, says: "This survey among the alumni of the part-time MBA program underlined the importance of the HHL network and the inspiration coming from it. It also showed that numerous career prospects that were not planned beforehand arise if you maintain contacts proactively, especially with fellow students from other companies and fields."

Petra Spanka, Administrative Director of the part-time MBA program, says: "The majority of our students has already developed tremendously while completing the MBA program, both with regard to the subject as well as in the fields of leadership and soft skills.   Intensive group work and the exchange of experiences in the various industries prepared the students for new challenges and made them curious about profiling themselves in new professional fields."

The Part-time Master in Management Program (MBA)

The two-year part-time MBA program with a focus on General Management is designed for people working in middle management who would like to extend their existing knowledge by practice-oriented and up-to-date management knowledge. The classes held in English teach the basics of economics in combination with concrete management tools. The participants benefit from an innovative curriculum which is no longer structured in a purely functional manner but also follows an interdisciplinary approach in accordance with the challenges in management (Managing Investors, Managing Society, Managing Customers etc.). Due to the participants' various academic and professional experiences (e. g. from the fields of engineering, IT, finance, medicine, law) they have the opportunity to exchange views and learn from each other through case studies and group work. The proportion of international students in the part-time MBA program at HHL constitutes 30 percent. The classes are taught by renowned national and international lecturers (e. g. from the US, Norway, Canada and the Czech Republic). The lectures take place in Leipzig on one weekend per month. They are combined with three module weeks which are spread over the entire two-year duration of the program (two weeks at HHL, one week in Bosten, USA). HHL stands out with its extensive network which extends the participants' personal and business contacts. A university degree and proof of a minimum of three years professional experience are the prerequisites for an application. The closing date for applications for the program starting in March 2012 is January 15, 2012. www.hhl.de/part-time-mba
