HHL students win prestigious nationwide students competition
Students of the program “Master of Science in Management” excelled in analytical skills, creativity, practice-orientation and team spirit
Last weekend two student teams of HHL – Leipzig Graduate School of Management won the trophy of the WFI – Consulting Cup in Ingolstadt and the first prize of the competition the contest by A.T. Kearney and WirtschaftsWoche.
In the WFI - Consulting Cup students from the “Master of Science in Management” program, Erich Süß, Erik Hille, Michael Dubbel and Robert Heesen prevailed in direct competition over seven teams from various German institutes of higher education, e.g. from the ESB Reutlingen, the University of Hohenheim and the European Business School (ESB). The case study assigned to the participants demanded a decision on the best use of the German Stock Exchange's cash asset reserves - for an acquisition of another stock exchange or for a payout of dividends to its financial backers.
The students from Leipzig stood out from the crowd because of their strong analytical performance and their coherent presentation of the content. The jury, consisting of professors and of representatives from The Boston Consulting Group, KPMG, Deutsche Bank In-house Consulting and BearingPoint, also complimented the group on their team spirit. Finally, the students could take home the cup and the prize money of € 1,500.
The Students Philipp Legge and Andreas Preller, also from the current class of the “Master of Science in Management” program, together with Katharina Pankoke (FHTW Berlin) und Hannah Page (FHW Berlin) won the university competition the contest. The competition was launched by the consulting agency A.T. Kearney and the journal WirtschaftsWoche, its central topic being “Patent medicine for the pharmaceutical market 2010 – diagnosis, therapy, success”. The competition started with 60 teams from German-speaking regions. In the finals the students from Leipzig came in ahead of the teams from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet (LMU) Munich, RWTH Aachen and the universities of Aachen and Karlsruhe.
Making use of research inquiries and personal interviews, delivering a correct analytical deduction and an appealing presentation the winning team gave the best recommendations for the business model of a regional pharmaceutical distributor struggling with falling margins.
Phillip Legge happily stated: “We are proud to have won this competition for HHL. It was not easy to prepare for the contest while taking exams. Especially challenging was the communication between the members of the team in Leipzig and Berlin. All the more we are looking forward to enjoying the prize – a trip to a EU-city of our choice, an internship at A.T. Kearney and an annual subscription of the WirtschaftsWoche.
