First Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter in Germany installed at HHL
Dr. Dieter Zetsche held an Occasional Lecture
On December 14th 2004, the first chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma was established at HHL – Leipzig Graduate School of Management. In addition to the induction of the first HHL members of Beta Gamma Sigma, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Member of the Management Board of DaimlerChrysler, CEO and President Chrysler Group, who was named Beta Gamma Sigma International Honoree in April 2004, delivered an Occasional Lecture entitled “Going global: industries, executives and opportunities”. Dr. Zetsche also had agreed to be the patron of HHL´s Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter.
In an official ceremony Professor Dr. David Blake, Member of the Board of Governors of Beta Gamma Sigma, installed the prestigious chapter at HHL and handed over the membership certificate to Professor Dr. Arnis Vilks, Dean of HHL. Afterwards 26 graduates as well as Professors and the Chancellor of HHL, Dr. Andreas Schmidt, were welcomed as the founding members of the Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter at HHL.
The second part of the event took place at the Mercedes Benz Branch in Leipzig. In an Occasional Speech Dr. Dieter Zetsche presented the forces of globalization, using the automotive industry, DaimlerChrysler and the Chrysler Group as examples. Further on he gave "five lessons” on how he learned from working and competing in the global business environment.
Lord Mayor of Leipzig, Wolfgang Tiefensee, who was among the many respected guests as well more than 80 members of Beta Gamma Sigma, who had come to Leipzig to celebrate the first Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter in Germany, enjoyed the following dinner and set the initial start for a growing network of exceptional graduates from the best business schools in the world.
Beta Gamma Sigma is an association of the best graduates of AACSB accredited business Schools. The society was founded in 1913 and counts more than half a million of members worldwide – among them many in leading management positions. Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International. With the installation of the chapter at HHL, graduates of HHL as well as German members of Beta Gamma Sigma, can now expand their network and benefit from activities offered by Beta Gamma Sigma.
