HHL offers scholarships for outstanding candidates interested in studying in one of our M.Sc. programs.

Full-time M.Sc. - Scholarship for Effective and Responsible Leadership

Eligibility
Applicants from all countries for the full-time M.Sc. Program 

HHL is offering two scholarships that support HHL's mission to "educate effective and responsible business leaders through excellence in teaching, research and practice."
The scholarship in the value of up to EUR 10,000 Euro covers part of the tuition fees of HHL's full-time M.Sc. Program.

About the Scholarship
The HHL Scholarship for Effective and Responsible Leadership targets successful future business leaders who want to study in HHL's full-time Master Program in Management (M.Sc.) starting in March or September.
The scholarship will provide the successful applicants with a tuition waiver for the M.Sc. Program worth up to EUR 10,000. Social responsibility, effective leadership, and dedication describe the track record of the grantee. In return, the grantee will support HHL's mission.

Scholarship Selection Process
The selection committee evaluates the applications and afterwards decides which candidates will be awarded with the Scholarship for Effective and Responsible Leadership. The final decision will be communicated after the last Admission Test Day of the current intake.

Requirements and Deadlines
Applicants must hold or be in the process of obtaining a first degree in business (at least 180 ECTS credits) with an above average result. Furthermore a GMAT score of at least 650 is required. Only applicants who apply for HHL's full-time M.Sc. Program for the March or the September intake are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Applicants are required to submit all application documents by January 15 (Intake March) or June 20 (Intake September).

Scholarship Essay
Please submit your essay on the respective topic along with the other application documents. The essay has to be written in English and should comprise approximately 3,000 words.

Topic for next intake: 
Every business leader faces inevitably ethical dilemmas. Choose one which you perceive as particularly relevant, describe it, and explain how an effective, responsible and entrepreneurial leader should cope with it.

Full-time M.Sc. - Scholarship of the Kofi Annan Fellowship

Eligibility
Students from developing areas can be nominated for a fellowship of the Kofi Annan Business School Foundation (KABSF). As associated business school of KABSF, HHL follows United Nations definition of least developed countries. Furthermore, fellows are expected to commit to returning to their home countries or regions to contribute to the development of the local or regional economies.

About the Scholarship
HHL is offering two scholarships in cooperation with the Kofi Annan Business School Foundation (KABSF), which aims to provide talents from least developed countries with equal opportunities to study at one of its associated business schools in Europe. The equality of educational opportunity is facilitated through full financial support on full tuition and fees of Euro 25,000 and a monthly stipend for living expenses throughout the respective study programs.

Selection Criteria
Apart from the admission requirements for the full-time MSc program, a combination of excellent academic achievements, work experience and involvement in extracurricular activities will increase the candidate's chances of receiving the scholarship.

About the Scholarship
The HHL Young Leader Scholarship for part-time M.Sc. students targets successful future business leaders who want to study in HHL’s part-time M.Sc. Program starting in September. Successful candidates will receive a tuition reduction of up to EUR 5,000 of the total tuition fee for the part-time M.Sc. Program. Social responsibility, effective leadership, and dedication describe the track record of the grantee that brings his/her leadership potential to HHL. In return, the grantee will support HHL’s mission. 

Scholarship Selection Process
The selection committee evaluates the applications and afterwards decides which candidates will be awarded with the Young Leader Scholarship. The final decision will be communicated four weeks after the application deadline of the current intake.

Full-time MBA - Future Entrepreneur Scholarship

Eligibility
Applicants from all countries for the full-time MBA Program. Only applicants who apply for HHL's full-time MBA program are eligible for this scholarship.

With over 165 start-ups established by our alumni over the past 17 years, HHL has also developed into an incubator for company creation. HHL develops the entrepreneurial spirit of its students through a theory-practice approach in teaching and learning and supports its students actively in the realization of their business ideas with its Future Entrepreneur Scholarship Program.

About the Scholarship
The Future Entrepreneur Scholarship Program focuses on prospective full-time MBA students who bring their entrepreneurial potential to HHL and who seek to start their own business after graduating from HHL or who have already started it. During their time at HHL the successful applicants will have the opportunity to introduce their business concept in at least one of HHL's events.

The scholarship will provide the successful candidates with a tuition waiver worth up to 50% of the tuition fee.

About the Scholarship
With the Young Leader Scholarship Program, HHL offers scholarships that support HHL’s mission to “educate effective and responsible business leaders through excellence in teaching, research and practice”. The scholarship also aims to contribute to the fostering of future national leaders in Europe and other countries.
The Young Leader Scholarship Program focuses on prospective students, who bring their leadership potential to HHL. The scholarship is also offered to outstanding e-fellows alumni.

The scholarship will provide the successful candidates with a tuition waiver for the part-time MBA program worth up to 25% of the tuition fee.

Selection criteria
Apart from the admission requirements for the part-time MBA program, a combination of excellent academic achievements, work experience and involvement in extracurricular activities will increase the candidate's chances of receiving a scholarship. Only applicants who apply for HHL’s part-time MBA Program are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Part-time MBA - Scholarship for Women in Business

Eligibility
Female applicants from all countries for HHL´s part-time MBA Program.

With its Scholarship for Women in Business, HHL would like to support excellent female candidates of all academic and national backgrounds who present strong motivation and outstanding professional and academic credentials and who are willing to become active members of the HHL community.

About the Scholarship
Successful candidates will receive a tuition reduction of up to 25% of the total tuition fee for the part-time MBA Program.

Application Requirements
Applicants must hold a first degree with an above average result and present a high GMAT score (min. 600) or in exceptional cases a very good result in the HHL Admission Test).
Successful candidates will receive the first half of the scholarship by the start of the MBA program and will need to maintain an overall grade average of at least 2,0 in their studies at HHL to be entitled to the second installment.

Stipendium “Ethics and Responsible Leadership in Business“

Durch die Förderung der Karl Schlecht Stiftung wurde am Wittenberg-Zentrum für Globale Ethik und und dem Leadership Excellence Institute Zeppelin (LEIZ) im Frühjahr 2014 ein gemeinsames Doktorandenkolleg eingerichtet. An dem Kolleg ist eine Dialogplattform angebunden, sodass das Programm wissenschaftliche Expertise führender Wirtschaftsethiker, das Know-how international operierender Unternehmen und die Sichtweisen zivilgesellschaftlicher Akteure zusammenführt. Die HHL ist eine der verbundenen wissenschaftlichen Institutionen und wird durch Prof. Dr. Andreas Suchanek als einem der betreuenden Professoren vertreten. Das Kolleg wendet sich an engagierte, international orientierte Promovierende, die sich mit Fragen guter Unternehmensführung im globalen Kontext befassen. Ziel ist neben dem Erwerb der fachspezifischen Qualifikation die Einbettung der Forschungsvorhaben in einen größeren theoretischen und gesellschaftspolitischen Rahmen.

Jährlich werden ca. sechs Promotionsstipendien ausgeschrieben. Das Stipendium dient der Finanzierung des Lebensunterhalts während des dreijährigen Promotionsstudiums. Das begleitende Studienprogramm beinhaltet 6 Pflichtkurse, 2 Wahlpflichtkurse und 2 Praxisprojekte, in denen die Doktoranden ihre theoretischen Kenntnisse in einem praktischen Kontext erproben können.
Die Forschungsthemen umspannen verschiedene Bereiche der Wirtschaftsethik, z.B. Behavioral Business Ethics, wo es darum geht die Implikationen der Verhaltensforschung und der Psychologie für die Wirtschaftsethik zu verstehen, oder Human Rights Due Diligence, wo hinterfragt wird, wie Unternehmen sicherstellen können, dass keine Menschenrechtsverletzungen in ihren Lieferketten begangen werden.

Stipendien der Friede Springer Stiftung

Seit 2013 unterstützt die Friede Springer Stiftung kontinuierlich herausragende Forschung mit der Vergabe von Promotionsstipendien an hervorragende Bewerber, die sich vorrangig der Erforschung der Rolle von Vertrauen in Unternehmen und Märkten widmen.

Scholarships for HHL Students

For the best students, to cover living costs in Germany (foreigners have to show financial resources of EUR 735 per month to obtain a student visa), HHL has established several links to private sponsors, companies and governmental organizations. These close relationships will help students to finance the stay in Germany. In addition, we recommend all foreign applicants for one of our programs to contact relevant national agencies in their respective home country. A lot of foreign governments have own scholarship programs to support a stay of their students abroad.

DAAD Scholarship Database

The scholarship database of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) should be one of your most important sources for your scholarship application. Please visit the website of the German Academic Exchange Service's scholarship database, and choose your country of origin. You must apply for most programs online. The German embassies in your home country will assist you. Please make sure to meet the application deadlines. For most programs, the German government will assist you with EUR 750 per month as a Master student or EUR 1,000 per month as a doctoral student.

DAAD Stibet Program

Eligibility
Foreign applicants and students, all HHL full-time programs

About the Scholarship
HHL receives EUR 25,000 per year from DAAD to assist the best foreign students to cover their living costs. The minimum installment is EUR 250 (one month); the maximum installment is EUR

 750 Euro (Master incl. MBA) or EUR 1,000 (doctoral students) per month for a maximum of 6 months.

Scholarship holders are expected to support the international department of HHL for 4 hours per week.

Prospective students should apply for the scholarship together via regular mail. Current students can submit the application directly to the International Office.

Application Form 

National Scholarship Program (Deutschlandstipendium)

Eligibility
All students admitted to HHL as well as enrolled HHL students. Prerequisite for the scholarship payment is an enrollment at HHL.

About the Scholarship
Launched in 2011, the National Scholarship Program supports highly motivated excellent students. With this initiative the German federal government aims at establishing a new culture of giving and supporting education by companies, individuals and foundations.  The initial amount of the scholarship is EUR 300 per month. The scholarship is financed by public funds (50 %) and private funds raised by HHL sponsors (50 %). This initial amount can be increased by the private sponsor.
The annual number of scholarships to be awarded will be published by the Director of Financial Aid of HHL. In 2015, HHL supports 8 students.
The National Scholarship Program started at the beginning of the fall semester 2011 and continues on a semester basis. The scholarship requires a formal application.

Application period is June 1-30 for the Fall term (September) and February 1-28 for the Spring term (April).
The duration of a scholarship is 12 months. The scholarship is renewable on application.

Selection Committee
The scholarships are awarded by a selection committee. This committee consists of the Director of Financial Aid and the heads of the academic programs of the applicants.

Selection Criteria
A) Academic performance: HHL applicants must have a minimum GMAT score of 650; currently enrolled HHL students must have achieved a GPA (grade point average) of min. 1.60 in their degree program by the scholarship application deadline.

B) Previous special successes, awards and prizes, to be proven by the applicant.

C) Non-university or non-professional commitment such as voluntary work, community, social, university or political involvement.

D) Special personal or family circumstances such as illness and disability, care of own children, especially as a single parent, or close relatives to care, employment in family business, own current employment, family background or migrant background.

Failure to meet the application criterion A) is an exclusion criterion, criteria B) to D) will be considered by the selection committee, provided they are adequately demonstrated by the candidate in German or English. For accompanying documents that are not written in German or English a certified translation must be submitted together with the original version. The applicant will be informed in writing about the scholarship decision.

Exclusion criterion for granting a scholarship is performance-based financial support from a domestic or foreign institution in case it exceeds a monthly average of EUR 30 per semester.

Academic Prerequisites
By the end of the first semester of the funding period HHL reviews the academic results of the scholarship holder for the continuation of the scholarship. The requirements are fulfilled with a GPA of 2.0.

Certificate
Together with the financial award, scholarship holders receive a certificate stating the name of the scholarship, its prerequisites, its amount and duration. The certificate also includes the names and logos of the donors.

Expiration
Within the award period, the scholarship will be paid also during a semester abroad, in case the academic results are transferable to HHL. The scholarship will not be paid out during a period of leave. The scholarship expires at the end of the granting period or in the month of the scholarship holder's

  • last examination
  • withdrawal from his studies
  • expellation

Personal Data
Scholarship applicants agree that their personal data will be transmitted to the public donors for statistical purposes and for a review of the exclusion criteria. Furthermore, applicants accept that they may be asked by HHL to appear in press and publicity in connection with the scholarship. Scholarship holders have to notify HHL immediately about changes that are relevant to the approval of the scholarship.
Any violation of this requirement or in the case of determining a non-prolongation of the scholarship after the first semester will result in a revoke of the scholarship to the end of the calendar month, with a notification of a six week period for repayment of unjustified amounts received. In the case of an unjustified double funding, the scholarship will be revoked retroactively with an immediate repayment period.
There is no legal claim to the award of a scholarship as described above.

About the Scholarship

This scholarship complements the DAAD support within Stibet. This need based scholarship covers living costs and/or tuition fees. The total amount of all Karl-Kolle-Scholarships is EUR 15,000 per year. A high GMAT score, excellent academic performance and proof of financial need are awarding prerequisites. The maximum available amount per student is EUR 750/month for graduate students and EUR 1,000/month for doctoral students.

Sparkasse Leipzig is the official financial partner for HHL students. Once admitted to HHL, students can apply for a student loan without presenting additional securities. The flexible loan covers the tuition fees up to EUR 30,000 with the repayment starting 12 months after graduation at the latest.
Students from non-European countries can also apply if they can provide a person (from Germany) willing to act as a guarantor.

Eligibility

About the Loan
Students admitted into one of HHL's programs may apply for the education fund offered by CareerConcept AG (up to EUR 30,000). After graduation the student has to pay back a fixed percentage (typically 4-10%) of his/her income over a period of 48-96 months.

Advantages

  • Unlike a loan, students do not have to pay back a fixed amount of interest and redemption.
  • The concept considers personal income situation and individually calculates personal financing options.
  • The payback does not begin until the student has secured a job.

About the Program
By concentrating on proactive measures German ESF fund 2014-2020 is combating social exclusion and supporting the ‘upgrade’ of workforce in order to meet demographic challenges. At national level, it concentrates on the adaptability of workers to support and sustain the growing economy. The fund is available in several federal states in Germany (e.g. Saxony, Saxony Anhalt), but the prerequisites are different.

Applicants from the U.S. (U.S. citizens), Full-Time MSc, Part-time MBA (Leipzig), Full-time MBA, Part-time MBA (Leipzig), Doctoral program.

Not eligible
- Global Executive MBA, MBA- and MSc- options in Cologne: 34 CFR §600.54(c) “…an eligible foreign institution may not enter into a written arrangement under which an ineligible institution or organization provides any portion of one or more of the eligible foreign institution’s programs.”
- Euro MBA: 34 CFR §600.51(d)(1) “a program offered by a foreign school through any use of a telecommunications course, correspondence course, or direct assessment program is not an eligible program.”

About direct loans

Eligibility
German applicants for the M.Sc. Program 

Depending on financial needs there is the opportunity to apply for federal financial support according to Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (BaföG). The maximum amount is currently EUR 670 per month given as a combination of grants and loans.

FIDERH loan program for Mexican students

FIDERH (Fund of Development for Human Resources) offers affordable loans to Mexican students admitted to HHL

Eligibility
Admitted HHL students, all programs

About the loan program
The loan is offered for studies of up to 24 months in duration with the maximum amount of 200 000 MXN. The loan amount may be used for tuition, living expenses and medical insurance.

Benefits

  • Applicable to study programs already under way
  • No administrative costs
  • No payments and not interest during the studies
  • Students receive the resources in foreign currency and pay back in Mexican pesos
  • Start of repayment one year after graduation
  • 10 year repayment period
  • Discount in interest payments if students pay on time and return to work in Mexico
  • Interest payments are foregone if students return to work at a Mexican university as a researcher or professor

Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) for Canadian applicants

HHL is one of the few German universities approved by OSAP. OSAP provides a mix of loans and grants for your master program at HHL

Eligibility

  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada in all HHL programs

About OSAP The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) offers two kinds of money:

  • grants: money you don’t have to pay back
  • a student loan you need to repay

Both the Ontario government and federal government provide this money. Through one OSAP application, you have access to a mix of different financial aid programs, depending on your circumstances.

SPD Bank loan program for Chinese students

HHL is the ONLY business school outside of China that is approved by Shanghai Pudong Development Bank (SPD Bank) with this student loan. SPD bank provides HHL master program students with flexible education loan with amount up to RMB500.000 (equivalent to EURO 72.000) with different payback schemes.
